Support That Fits Your Body
Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing a condition, or looking for added support during activity, the right brace can make a meaningful difference in how you move and feel.
At Great North Physiotherapy, we assess, fit, and prescribe bracing solutions tailored to your needs, not just off-the-shelf options.
Bracing isn’t one-size-fits-all
A brace should do more than just “hold things in place.” It should support movement, reduce strain, and help you function with more confidence.
At Great North, we take a clinical approach to bracing. That means we don’t just hand you a product — we assess what’s going on, determine what type of support is appropriate, and ensure the fit and function are right for you.
Whether you need short-term support during recovery or something more long-term, your brace should work with your body — not against it.
Could you benefit from bracing?
Custom bracing may be right for you if you’re dealing with:
Knee instability or ligament injury
Ankle sprains or recurring instability
Wrist or hand injuries
Joint pain during activity
Post-operative support needs
Chronic conditions requiring joint support
Return-to-sport or return-to-work support
Situations where added stability improves confidence and performance
The right brace can help you move with more control, reduce discomfort, and stay active while you recover.

Custom and Off-the-Shelf Options

The Right Fit Matters
A brace is only effective if it’s the right type and properly fitted.
Your bracing consultation includes:
- Assessment of your injury or concern
- Discussion of your goals (daily life, work, sport)
- Determination of appropriate bracing options
- Proper sizing and fitting
- Education on when and how to use your brace
We make sure your brace supports your movement, not limits it unnecessarily.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Do I need a referral for custom bracing?
If you have extended benefits and are looking to have the cost of the bracing covered, we recommend speaking with your insurance provider first as they may require you to obtain a referral from your family doctor or another healthcare provider. You do not need a referrral to book for a consultation with our team though.
Are braces covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans cover bracing, but coverage varies. We recommend checking with your provider.
Will I need a custom brace or off-the-shelf?
That depends on your condition, level of support required, and goals. We’ll guide you through the best option.
Can I use a brace during sport or activity?
Yes, many braces are designed specifically to support movement during activity and return-to-sport progression. We'll make sure you're set up for success.
Looking for the right support?
The right brace can make a big difference, but only if it’s the right one for you.
