Sophie isn’t your typical physiotherapist - she’s in a league of her own.
Hailing from Kingston, ON, Sophie graduated from Bishop’s University in 2015 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance. After working in the Kingston arts community for several years, she noticed rehabilitation specialists severely underserved injury prevention and treatment for artists and musicians. This knowledge enabled her to pivot her career trajectory and complete her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Queen’s University in 2020.
Sophie is passionate about her role as a facilitator and helping people return to doing what they love. She prioritizes self-efficacy, health literacy, and a collaborative, evidence-based approach. Setting individualized movement and exercise goals to facilitate sustainable change is vital in her practice. She also uses pain education, manual therapy, and therapeutic modalities to assist in alleviating pain and building resilience in the face of persistent discomfort.
Sophie is rostered in pelvic floor physiotherapy and is a certified 200-hour yoga and mindfulness teacher. She has completed numerous continuing education courses, including:
- Level 1: The Physical Therapy Approach to Anyone Experiencing Urinary Incontinence
- Level 2: The Role of Physiotherapy in the Treatment of Anyone Experiencing Pelvic Pain Through a Trauma-Informed Lens
- Elevating Pregnancy, Birth, and the 4th Trimester - A Biopsychosocial Approach for Pelvic, Ortho and Perinatal Physiotherapists
- Pain Neuroscience Applied to Childbirth: Exploring Theory, Integration, and Outcomes
- Caesarean Birth and Rehabilitation
- Clinical Management of the Fitness Athlete: Pregnancy & Postpartum
- Reframing Resistance Training Across the Lifespan
In her free time, Sophie loves lifting weights, swimming, rock climbing, and hiking. In addition to serenading her cats and partner with unrequested piano/violin concerts, Sophie nourishes her artistic side through knitting, drawing, and embarrassing shower concerts.
